Innovative Opportunity to Build Community

The Director of the Northern New Jersey Center for Jewish Teen Engagement will oversee the implementation of a new high-profile initiative with the primary objective to build community-wide capacity to increase engagement of teens in meaningful, innovative, and compelling opportunities that support Jewish growth during their high-school years. The Teen Center Initiative is being launched with major grant funding by the Russell Berrie Foundation, and in collaboration with Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, The Jewish Education Project and the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades.
The Northern New Jersey-based Teen Engagement Center will include multi-faceted, synergistic components:
- Create and lead a Jewish Teen Professional Round Table to provide meaningful opportunities for collaboration for professionals from the area serving Jewish teens, to expand their thinking and knowledge for programming, create career enhancement and advancement, and optimize professional engagement and networking.
- Professional Development to support and enhance effectiveness of experiential Jewish educators and youth professionals, widely recognized as the key to successfully engaging teens
- Expanded and Innovative Programming for Teens:
• Encourage programmatic collaboration and sharing of resources between teen programs to address gaps in service
• Pilot innovative programs and turnkey successful programs throughout northern New Jersey
• Pilot microgrants to pilot and test new program ideas through Jewish organizations area-wide - Encourage increased participation by teens through development of an Information Hub to provide a centralized resource for teens, parents, and Jewish professionals with digital and in-person engagement approaches
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of existing and new initiatives that help advance the vision for the Center for Teen Engagement
• Work with evaluator to ensure the landscape analysis is sufficiently inclusive and to analyze results. Incorporate learnings from landscape analysis into community outreach and the work of the Teen Center.
• Develop and deepen partnerships with community stakeholders including but not limited to: synagogues, youth groups, schools, teens, parents, and lay leaders
• Convene the Jewish Teen Professionals Round Table to encourage networking, growth, and collaboration
• Oversee the tracking and measurement of objectives and progress towards long‐term goals as well as liaise with local and national evaluation professionals
• Collect, analyze, and report on relevant program data as part of an ongoing evaluation effort
• Monitor community and national trends and new initiatives in teen education and engagement and explore possibilities to test them locally
• Serve as an enthusiastic and dedicated spokesperson for Jewish teen education and engagement
• Convene Advisory Committee under direction of the Management Team
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
• Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong relationships and networks with a wide variety of people
• Excellent understanding and affinity for teens and understanding of current trends in the teen market
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proactive self-starter with demonstrated organizational skills, and proven ability to work on multiple high priority tasks
• Excellent project management and organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to follow‐through
• Ability to envision, plan, inspire, and execute strategy and be an ambassador for the promotion of Jewish teens and teen professionals
• Five to seven years of experience in Jewish informal or formal education, or related area
• Expertise in program implementation, teen engagement, experiential Jewish education, and staff supervision are all a plus
• Willingness to travel throughout the northern New Jersey service area and work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings or weekends
REPORTING STRUCTURE
• The Director will report to the Director of Community & Strategic Initiatives of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. This will provide supervision, support with grant administration and budgeting, timeline management, development and reporting of metrics, and other related tasks.
• The Director will meet regularly with the Management Team, consisting of one staff member from each of the following: Jewish Federation of Northern NJ, The Jewish Education Project, Kaplen JCC on the Palisades.
• The position is based at Federation’s offices in Paramus. As the focus of the position shifts from initial start up to program innovation, it is expected that the Director will spend more time in the field throughout northern New Jersey, meeting with teen professionals. The Director is expected to spend focused time at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, as a programmatic and experimentation base for the region.
• The Jewish Education Project will provide support and professional development to support the Director, connect to the Jewish teen professionals in the area, and engage with the national discourse on innovative Jewish teen program models.
COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000
