Director of Engagement & Membership

Join our warm, vibrant community and help shape the future of Kol Ami!

Kol Ami is the largest Reform congregation in Southern Arizona, proudly providing spiritual, educational, social, and cultural programs to 600+ families. As a cornerstone of Jewish life in our region, Kol Ami offers a lively, forward-thinking environment where meaningful relationships are at the heart of what we do.

The Opportunity
We’re looking for a dynamic Director of Engagement & Membership who loves getting to know people. In this visible leadership role, you’ll combine creativity, community-building, and strategic planning with full responsibility for membership onboarding, engagement, support, and database management. You will develop and implement short- and long-term strategies to recruit new member prospects, encourage and track engagement, drive renewals, and create meaningful connections.

Working closely with the Executive Director and committees, you’ll oversee the entire membership lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to retention and data management. If you thrive on forging genuine connections, organizing impactful outreach, and bringing people together, this role is for you!

What You’ll Do
• Recruit, Retain & Engage
o Develop and implement innovative strategies to attract new members and strengthen existing relationships with our current members
o Serve as the primary liaison for prospective and current members—welcoming inquiries, sharing information, and promoting Kol Ami’s mission in a friendly, approachable way.
o Collaborate with staff, lay leaders, and volunteers to encourage a culture of belonging and communal involvement.
• Lead & Innovate
o Design and execute onboarding processes to ensure each new member feels connected to our community from day one.
o Work closely with the Connections Committee to create programs and processes that foster personal relationships and meaningful engagement.
o Identify leadership and interest group opportunities for members and guide them toward volunteer or interest groups that fit their interests and skills.
• Event & Program Coordination
o Partner with the Programming Manager to develop and support events, ensuring they resonate with our diverse congregation and strategic goals.
o Participate in events, ensuring gatherings are welcoming, fun, and well-organized opportunities for members to build deeper bonds with one another.
• Communication & Marketing
o Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Manager on digital and print campaigns, social media, and promotional materials to increase awareness of Kol Ami’s programs.
o Track engagement data and continuously refine communication strategies based on results.
• Data & Database Management
o Maintain and enhance new and current membership records using database tools—ensuring accurate, up-to-date information to fuel strategic decisions.
o Provide insightful analytics to guide recruitment and retention efforts.

What You Bring
• Excellent People Skills: You can quickly form connections and listen empathetically to people with diverse backgrounds and opinions, making everyone you interact with feel valued. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with maturity, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism
• Organizational Prowess: You’re a master at juggling multiple projects, keeping tabs on details, and following through on both short- and long-term goals.
• Outstanding Communication: Your written and verbal communication is excellent, whether you’re interacting with congregants, Clergy, staff, volunteers, or lay leaders.
• Flexible & Adaptable: A large part of the role is getting to know people; visibility and participation are essential. This is not a regular 9-5 role but rather a dynamic hybrid role where lots of coffee meetings are part of the job and where the hours are flexible and fair. When events happen over the weekend or evening, the Director must be willing to work occasional weekends or evenings as required.
• Tech Savvy: You’re comfortable with databases, spreadsheets, MS Office, social media platforms, and email/calendar tools.
• Team Player & Self-Starter: You love collaborating with others yet can also operate independently to move plans forward.
• Background & Knowledge: A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Reform Judaism is strongly preferred but not required.

Why Kol Ami?
• Make a Difference: You’ll play a pivotal role in growing and nurturing our congregation, forging lasting relationships and community impact.
• Supportive Environment: Work alongside dedicated professionals and Clergy in a collaborative and caring atmosphere.
