Creative, Experiential Jewish Educators - Wed / Sun
Location: White Plains, NY 10606
Bet Am Shalom, a Reconstructionist congregation in White Plains, NY, is hiring teachers for our K-6 Torah La'am educational program for the 2024-25 school year.
Bet Am Shalom includes families from all over Westchester County, NY, who are interested in finding an open, warm, and inclusive community that embraces progressive thinking and traditional Jewish practice. At Torah La'am, our teachers use an inquiry-based, child-centered approach; we encourage students to explore their relationsihp with Judaism through text, the arts, music and prayer, and Tikkun Olam. We view and teach Hebrew as a vibrant, living language that connects us both to our traditional texts and liturgy and the modern State of Israel.
Our sixth grade classes meet on Sunday mornings, 9-11:30 am, and Wednesday afternoons, 4-6 pm. Candidates should have basic Hebrew reading and comprehension skills, and comfort with a progressive, pluralistic approach to Jewish literacy, history, and values. As a progressive, Zionist organization, we teach Israel Education with nuance, through the lens of both Ahavat Yisrael and B'tzelem Elohim.
Please submit resume and cover letter to Lisa Jacobs, Director of Family Education and Engagement.
