Seeking After School Program Teacher for Innovative After School program
Location: San Leandro, CA 94577
Join our team as an After School Program Educator. This position would be perfect for someone who loves the idea of summer camp, year round! The successful candidate is an educator who truly loves working with and actively engaging with children in grades TK-6. This is an incredibly fun job with play at the heart of the program.
This position is a full-time (30 hours) After School teaching position that qualifies for benefits. Those include a health care reimbursement plan, monthly accruing PTO, professional development opportunities, paid time off for Jewish High Holidays and Federal holidays, and weekly staff appreciation snacks.
We do not have programming over school breaks, but we do offer day camps which could offer additional employment opportunities both over school breaks and summer breaks.
After-school Teacher Responsibilities:
Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, library, etc.)
Planning, preparing, and implementing daily lesson plans in partnership with the director
Provide activities that focus on developing children's social, emotional, and motor skills using our Jewish Values curriculum and calendar as guiding principles.
Support students in forming their own Jewish identities
Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of students' outcomes and encouraging student development
Attends weekly staff meetings, monthly staff training, and staff training week for continued professional development.
Modeling and Teaching non-violent communication skills to students to resolve conflicts.
Interacting with children to provide guidance, emotional support, and motivation to complete tasks.
Maintaining an organized and clean learning and play environment and ensuring students conduct themselves appropriately.
Driving an 8-passenger mini-van to local schools to transport children to our location. This includes properly buckling students into the high back and no back booster seats.
Working in collaboration with the Director, Heritage School Educators, and TBS Staff to fulfill duties.
After-school Teacher Requirements:
A minimum of 2 years experience working as an after-school teacher, teaching assistant, Hebrew school teacher, or a similar role.
CPR Certification or willingness to obtain certification
Valid Drivers License
Ability to foster a fun and safe classroom environment conducive to learning.
Strong knowledge of child behavior and learning patterns.
Ability to work with children and remain friendly, calm, and patient at all times.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to set rules and guidelines for children to follow.
Solid organizational skills and ability to maintain a tidy and neat classroom.
Desired:
A bachelor's degree in teaching, early childhood education, or a similar field.
Some experience managing students in an after-school program or similar program setting
Familiarity with Hebrew sufficient to teach beginning Hebrew readers the Alef Bet
A strong familiarity with Jewish practices and customs.
