Today, Congregation AABJ&D is an Orthodox synagogue that boasts a membership of over 300 families and is one of the largest and most robust Jewish congregations in the country. AABJ&D has a well-deserved reputation for being a shul that possesses uncommon warmth, hospitality and chesed. Our Shul’s reputation has been built through the quality of our Rabbis, the people within our community and the huge array of programs and activities the Shul runs day in and day out. Our Shul is a house of worship, with daily minyanim and five minyanim on Shabbos mornings. It is also a place of learning with individuals and groups meeting daily to enrich their lives with Torah study. The Shul has a successful nursery program, an extensive youth program, a varied adult education program, and so much more.
About the role:
We are seeking a Manager of Synagogue Operations who is passionate about the work and the community, who loves the challenge of juggling diverse responsibilities, a creative ideas person who welcomes the thoughts of others, an effective problem-solver and a people person who takes on new challenges with enthusiasm and rigorous attention to detail.
In this role, you will be responsible for the smooth running of all synagogue operations. You are core to the synagogue’s success and to its long-term growth. Working in collaboration with our executive committee, members, rabbis and staff, you will be an innovative and energetic leader with a central role in events, membership, finance, and operations.
You will be the first person many new members will meet, and therefore will be essential in support of membership recruitment and development. Knowing and reaching out to members is core to who we are as a congregation. In partnership with the rabbis and synagogue leadership, we want you to be a central part of that effort.
You will be key to setting the tone for the rest of the staff, helping to build sustainable operating systems and managing our community and programs. You will be responsible to the President of the Congregation on a day-to-day basis, support the Rabbis in their daily work, and communicate to the Board of Directors through monthly meetings. You will supervise the bookkeeper, and maintenance staff, and work closely with the nursery director to support the nursery school.
This is a full-time position, based on shul campus from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with occasional need for weekend or after hours presence
In this role you will:
Engagement
Cultivate and nurture relationships within the congregation and the community
Be responsive and enthusiastic about membership inquiries
Address congregational concerns in a timely manner; escalate as appropriate to necessary parties including the rabbi, other professional staff and lay leadership
Collaborate with the rabbi, nursery school director, lay leadership, and other staff to define and meet AABJ&D’s mission, vision, and values
Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, empowerment, integrity, and fun
Operations and Compliance
Manage the day-to-day operations of the synagogue
Manage facilities personnel, vendors, and contractors, including outside professional experts such as accountants and auditors
Ensure accuracy of membership information and records
Develop and implement policies, best practices, and procedures
Supervise maintenance, bookkeeping and the security personnel
Develop and oversee all communication platforms and strategies including website content
Vet and manage relationships with vendors and contractors
Maintain the synagogue calendar while keeping tabs of local schools, federation and other relevant calendars for continuity as well as ensuring no scheduling conflicts for events
Oversee all aspects of the building operations, including security staff as well as ensuring that the building, grounds, and equipment are well maintained
Proactively develop and execute on a vision for the efficient and cost-effective use of the synagogue’s space
Oversee financial management for the synagogue; use appropriate systems, controls and insurance to ensure legal compliance, integrity, and transparency; communicate effectively and frequently with lay leadership about the synagogue’s finances
Manage financial personnel and vendors

Are detail oriented and understand how to run a smooth operation
Are experienced using Microsoft Office, Shul Cloud a plus
Have 1+ years of supervisory experience
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this exempt role is $80,000 - $85,000 (flexible based on experience).
