AJC’s Department of Leadership Development and Board Engagement (LDBE) serves as the liaison to the national Board of Governors and manages the day-to-day experience of serving on the Board, and provides opportunities for AJC’s most committed lay leaders to meaningfully engage with the organization and help advance AJC’s advocacy work. In addition to working with the national Board, the LDBE Team oversees the national leadership development programs, which seek to identify, educate, empower, and steward leaders through the national leadership pipeline.

This department is also responsible for the National Leadership Development Committee (NLDC) and works in close collaboration with the larger national Leadership Department, including the Alexander Young Leadership Department, and with the Department of Regional Offices and programmatic and advocacy-focused departments.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and thoughtful professional, who is passionate about AJC’s mission. The successful candidate will be highly organized, comfortable with data, and skilled at fast-paced project management.

The current members of the LDBE Department are based in D.C. and Atlanta.

Position Responsibilities:

LDBE Operations
● Organize the LDBE calendar (in-person and virtual), including Board of Governors meetings and events, meetings of the NLDC and its subcommittees, national leadership development programs and nominations schedule, national leadership development program alumni events, and other miscellaneous initiatives of the department. Coordinate with the Master AJC Calendar and other departments to reduce scheduling conflicts.
● Maintain the LDBE communications schedule, including Board of Governors communications and the scheduling of other major LDBE communications; and coordinating with Marketing and Communications, Development, and other departments on the communications schedule. Manage the library of LDBE resources, including coordinating their upkeep. Resources include: BoG resources, LDBE resources for lay leaders and staff, weekly LDBE highlights in the Daily staff email, and other resources as needed.
● Manage email distribution lists for LDBE constituencies in both Outlook and AJC’s mass emailing system and serve as LDBE’s primary liaison working with AJC’s mass emailing system.
● Manage all events-related materials, including creating materials, when needed, and coordinating cross-departmentally to collect and organize existing materials.
● Run logistics for all virtual programs.
● Oversee registration and guests lists for all meetings and events, including coordinating with Development and Global Events on registration of LDBE constituencies at major national AJC programming.
● Support the Director and Associate Director on miscellaneous events, projects, and initiatives as they arise.

Data Management and Analysis
● Input and manage all LDBE data in Raiser’s Edge, including Board of Governors, national leadership development program participants and alumni, and others in the national leadership pipeline tracking system.
● Manage national committee membership lists, including the invitation process.
● Create and execute systems for analyzing and presenting LDBE data in support of individual leader stewardship and promoting the national leadership pipeline.
● Oversee program evaluation for all LDBE events, including BoG programs and national leadership development programs, to ensure the greatest impact on the individual leader and collective return on investment for the organization.
● Run the data analysis for the national leadership pipeline tracking system and leader interest tracking system.

Lay Leader Relations and Stewardship
● Act as a primary contact for members of the Board of Governors and all other leaders in the national leadership pipeline.
● Serve as key partner for senior lay leadership, including the Chair of the BoG and Chair of Leadership Development.
● Project manage, including writing, regularly recurring BoG communications such as the monthly BoG Advocacy Roundup email and monthly BoG Community Newsletter.
● Draft remarks and written communications for lay leaders, as needed.

Additional Responsibilities
● Serve as a thought-partner for the team, actively engaging in brainstorming and thinking big about new ways to engage, steward, and empower national leaders.
● Remain abreast of National and Local opportunities for lay leaders, both emerging and veteran, connecting leaders with the correct staff when appropriate and acting as one of the contacts for AJC opportunities across the organization.

The ideal candidate for the Senior Associate, LDBE position will:
● Be highly detail-oriented and exceptionally organized;
● Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a rapidly changing and demanding environment;
● Have superior analytical, evaluative and problem-solving skills;
● Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
● Show respect for and adherence to confidentiality when necessary;
● Have outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to engage with high level leaders; both AJC staff persons and lay leaders;
● Be an exceptional team-player;
● Knowledge and/or interest in issues of importance to AJC is preferred (i.e. Israel, combating antisemitism, world Jewry, promoting democratic values, etc.).
Additional requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree required;
● 3-4 years of experience in some of the following areas strongly preferred: management of donor data, project management, program/event planning, and donor relations;
● Travel for Board meetings or Leadership Development programs, required 3-5x/year for a few days at a time;
● Some weekend and evening work required upon notice;
● Must be highly proficient in Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite, working in Google Drive/with Google Products, and Zoom;
● Familiarity/Fluency with Raiser’s Edge and Cvent is strongly preferred.

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $65,000, depending on relevant experience and location.
