We are a multifaceted, intergenerational community devoted to finding joy through Torah and the traditions of the Jewish people, as expressed in the Masorti/Conservative movement. Our goal is to foster individual and collective spiritual and intellectual growth in a warm atmosphere of friendship and support.
The Hebrew School
Beth El’s Hebrew School inspires Pre-K through 8th grade students and their families to love Judaism, engage deeply with our traditions, and facilitate a just community and world. We cultivate a caring, child-centered environment with a strong emphasis on recognizing and supporting individual learning styles.
Our curriculum currently has a focus on Hebrew through prayers, the Jewish calendar year and life-cycle events, and Jewish identity. We meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings and anticipate an enrollment of 35-40 students for the 2023 - 2024 school year.
We are seeking a joyful, inclusive, dynamic, and visionary Jewish leader who will help grow our Hebrew School program.
The ideal candidate will have:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in education, preferably in Jewish education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Jewish Education or related field preferred. Candidates with cantorial or rabbinic experience are also welcome to apply.
Supervisory management experience
Administrative capability including logistics and budgeting
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with youth, teens, families, colleagues, and community leaders
Desire and initiative to grow the school
Job Responsibilities
Manages Hebrew School in all aspects during the academic year, including hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff, student enrollment, and preparing and managing the religious school budget within synagogue guidelines.
Assists teachers in creating and maintaining a pleasant, engaging, and focused learning environment. Helps teachers establish strong relationships with students and parents.
Assesses and develops all areas of curriculum with respect to industry’s standards and the specific needs of the Beth El community
Regularly communicates with all relevant stake-holders
Community outreach, with a particular focus on increasing school enrollment
Work Schedule/Time Commitments
Hebrew School class sessions
Time needed for administration of school and related duties
Family holiday events and occasional Shabbat services (may include Kabbalat Shabbat, family-oriented Saturday morning services, or B’Nei Mitzvah services)
Board, staff, and/or committee meetings
Current position is part-time during the school year (approximately 25-30 hours per week)
Position has the potential to grow after the first year, depending on candidate’s expertise and synagogue needs
Position begins August 1, 2023
