JOB SUMMARY:
The Interfaith Center, which includes the offices of the Catholic, Protestant, Humanist, Muslim, and Jewish Chaplains, operates as a unit within the Division of Student Affairs. The center sponsors events and programs jointly from these offices, emphasizing its interfaith focus and purpose. The Jewish Chaplain reports to the Interfaith Coordinator under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Student and Community Engagement .
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Provides an environment for spiritual guidance and religious expression for members of the Jewish community.
- Meet individually with the students and hold a minimum of two posted office hours per week and one virtual hour.
- This position advises the Hillel Club on campus
- Perform and/or arrange religious services as applicable. Minimum of one hour per week required for religious service and/or prayer such as Shabbat Dinners, Jewish Services etc.
- Make suggestions for programs and use of the Interfaith Center funds.
- Develop one Interfaith Program with other Chaplains a semester.
- Attend monthly student affairs and interfaith division meetings (three hours per month).
- Attend all Interfaith programs offered through the Interfaith Office.
- Attend all Commencement, Matriculation, Orientation activities fair and Spirit Weekend activities as well as religious services if applicable.
- Produce one educational/religious/spiritual program per semester under the individual religious/humanist faith with appropriate learning outcome as per CAS standards.
- Be available for all campus emergencies involving students and staff.
- Be available for all memorial services if need arises.
- Enhance the quality of student life and encourage the social experience of students by working with the various religious clubs and service organizations on campus.
- Perform assignments and duties in collaboration with the appropriate division learning outcomes and objectives set forth by CAS standards.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
All chaplains must be permitted to perform religious services on University campuses.
Experience working with diverse populations is necessary.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality is required.
Must be creative and highly motivated to assist students in their spirituality in a variety of settings.
