JOB POSTING: KOL EMET PART-TIME RELIGIOUS SCHOOL DIRECTOR
Kol Emet is a thriving, progressive Reconstructionist synagogue located in Bucks County, PA. We are a community synagogue, welcoming to all. Together we learn, pray, serve, and continually expand on what it means to be Jewish today, both within our community and beyond our walls. The students in our close-knit and growing Religious School, the heart of our synagogue, inspire us with their excitement, warmth, and menschlichkeit/caring sensibilities.
We seek an enthusiastic, talented, and experienced part-time Religious School Director committed to partnering with our rabbi, lay leaders, and our professional team to lead the formal and experiential education of our children and families. Kol Emet is dedicated to building and nurturing enriching relationships with our children (ages 4-16) as they develop into Jewish adults, grounded in the values of the Jewish tradition and Tikkun Olam. The Religious School Director serves as our guide as we infuse both passion and compassion within our inclusive Jewish community.
Responsibilities:
● Hire, supervise, evaluate, and provide for professional development for Religious School teachers and staff.
● Serve as an instructional leader for Religious School staff, including differentiated planning, implementation, and assessment to maximize student outcomes.
● Integrate the Religious School vision and programming into the life of the community by collaborating with the synagogue leadership team, including the Rabbi, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors; participate in congregational events when possible.
● Collaborate with the Preschool Director to ensure a seamless transition for Preschool graduates to the Religious School.
● Be able to provide direct instruction for students at all levels.
● Ensure an inclusive learning environment and safe space for diverse student populations.
● Provide for multiple means of reaching students, based on their individual profiles and learning needs.
● Design and implement a balanced curriculum, programming, and instruction by collaborating with the Rabbi and professional staff.
● Develop and plan class and family programs, as well as congregation/school activities (e.g. Teen Assistants [Madrichim], class Shabbat and holiday programs, B’nei Mitzvah, and Confirmation) in consultation with the Rabbi.
● Revise curriculum to meet current needs and create innovative programs.
● Oversee all Religious School operations.
● Provide a safe and secure learning environment; work with the synagogue Covid Response Team to implement Covid procedures.
● Work with the finance committee in the development of an annual budget and prepare policies relating to the school program.
Qualifications:
● Master's degree (preferred) or Bachelor's degree in Education, Jewish Studies, or related field
● 3+ years of K-12 classroom experience in Jewish education, including teaching and curriculum development
● Prior supervisory experience (2+ years preferred)
● Is passionate about Judaism and the Jewish people
● Supports and values a pluralistic and inclusive approach to Jewish education and Tikkun Olam
● Has strong technology, organizational, communication, and team-building skills
Salary: $25,000 - $35,000
Hours per week: 25
