Part-Time Bookkeeper
Location: Andover, MA 01810
Responsible for handling the fundamental aspects of the Temple’s financial recordkeeping, including recording financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements and completing annual tax forms.
Key Job Duties
• Responsible for customer invoicing and collections, posting of customer payments, checking account deposits, maintaining checking and bank account balances and reconciliations, payment of all vendor bills submitted.
• Monitors the cash balances in checking accounts.
• Prepares various accounting summaries and reports.
• Responds to inquiries and requests regarding payroll, benefits and other bookkeeping duties. Follows up to resolve errors and discrepancies in accordance with established procedures.
• Assists the accountant or financial manager in the preparation for audit and the production of financial statements, budgets and other financial reports by performing such duties as providing related documentation, preparing various accounting summaries and reports, and compiling statistics.
• Familiarity with congregational structure and ShulCloud database is a plus.
Job Requirements
• University degree or college diploma in accounting or a related field with a focus in the area of finance.
• 3-5 years of previous experience in a role involving financial accounting preferably in a non-profit environment.
• Previous experience in working through and preparing for an audit.
• Valid Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal and state legislation affecting charities and non-profit organizations.
• Advanced QuickBooks and Excel skills.
• Proven planning, analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to perform in a team environment and meet established deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills.
• Able to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.
Work Environment
The work of the Bookkeeper is a highly responsible position which requires mental acuity. The Bookkeeper will be required to do complicated tasks, sit for an hour or more, speak, hear, stand, walk, balance, stoop, squat, bend and/or kneel.
