A newly launching organization supporting Jewish education in Baltimore seeks its first Executive Director. In evaluating trends and data and in planning for a bright future for our community, The Associated seeks to intensify its efforts in supporting Jewish education in Baltimore by launching JES. Jewish Educational Services (JES) aims to support Jewish schools, their educators, and families so children in Baltimore are inspired to pursue lifelong Jewish learning, values, and lifestyle. Building upon the success of two established organizations (CJE and SHEMESH,) JES is focused on strengthening Jewish education. Our vision is a thriving Baltimore Jewish community where Jewish education and literacy are celebrated, inform lives, and build Jewish identity.
Objectives: Jewish Educational Services (JES)
JES seeks to:
Invest in the precious resource of our Jewish educators in day schools, congregational schools, and Jewish preschools by developing and supporting meaningful professional development
Address issues of teacher recruitment and retention
Support the development, dissemination, and implementation of effective pedagogical tools for students with learning differences that will assist others as well
Build upon the current effective services to enhance Jewish education offered by Jewish schools
Embrace the goal of Jewish literacy in all its many aspects
Make the case for the value of Jewish education for all
What You Will Do
We seek an experienced leader to launch JES by successfully blending services and programs from two existing organizations into a new effective, support for Jewish education of children of all abilities in Baltimore. Of the estimated 20,500 Jewish children in Baltimore, approximately 50% are enrolled in either a Jewish day school or congregational school. 17% are enrolled in Jewish preschools.
Your responsibilities will include:
Building strong relationships with Jewish day schools, congregational schools, and Jewish preschools
Developing and motivating a strong, integrated team to deliver existing services while launching effective new approaches and services
Supporting and encouraging a commitment to Jewish learning, values, and lifestyle
Communicating best practices and innovative ideas in education while listening and learning from all
Successfully engaging a board of lay leaders to develop and implement strategic goals for JES
Effectively collecting and using data to drive JES priorities
Advocating for Jewish education in Baltimore
Respecting the diversity of Jewish schools and approaches
Ensuring a financially and operationally sound organization
Collaborating with the Associated’s network of nonprofit organizations
Participating in the Associated’s financial resource development strategies to secure funding for JES and the other nonprofits in the Associated’s network

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: Salary range is $140,000-$180,000 and is commensurate with experience.
