Membership Engagement Manager
Location: Northbrook, IL 60062
Temple Beth-El in Northbrook, IL is seeking an experienced and personable Membership Engagement Manager to be responsible for the overall engagement, satisfaction and retention of Temple Beth-El members. The Membership Engagement Manager would work closely with the Executive Director, Clergy, Director of Congregational Learning, and Engagement Assistant to create a warm, vibrant environment for our members to engage fully in synagogue life. The ideal candidate has experience fostering relationships across all ages and stages, coordinating large scale relational and experiential programs, and using CRM systems to track member relationships and interests. This person would also be experienced in all social media platforms and have the knowledge to engage the community at large.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Relationships
• Cultivate and build relationships with members, responding to their inquiries and proactively
engaging them by serving as point person for ongoing opportunities to learn, grow and volunteer
• Warmly welcome new and prospective members, helping them develop a sense of belonging to the Temple and build connections with the community.
• Ensure that potential and new members are connected to appropriate staff and clergy, and develops activities that promote and grow relationships between members
Strategy
• As part of Member Engagement Team, design and implement outreach and engagement
initiatives and strategies along with lay leaders
• Work with the Engagement Assistant to manage our database (CRM) to track engagement, progress and develop relationships
• Identify and analyze trends in membership demographics and interests
• Develop strategies to increase member touchpoints
Social Media and Administrative
• Promote engagement activities across all communications and social media
• Work with communications staff to publicize various opportunities and creating targeted outreach
• Engage and manage our social media influences providing the content and plan for them to implement
• Monitor all our social media platforms and respond when needed
• Provide phone and email support to members by responding to inquires about ways to get involved and engagement pathways
• Attend monthly Membership Team meetings to report progress and other information
Experience and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree and three or more years relevant work experience (Experience in non-profit or membership organization preferred)
• Superior spoken and written communication skills; ability to inspire others
• Active listening skills to develop relationships and engage members
• Outstanding interpersonal skills: ability to interact effectively with congregants,
clergy and staff with tact, patience, discretion, and a willingness to be of service
• Expert computer skills: advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and Google docs; ability to learn and use database systems (experience in ShulCloud a plus)
• Demonstrated ability to work well within a team setting and assist in building and
maintaining a positive team environment
• Self-starter with high standard of excellence; ability to multi-task, prioritize and
work efficiently, think creatively and solve problems; demonstrate initiative and
good judgment while working in a lively office environment
• Familiarity with Jewish rituals and traditions is a plus, along with understanding of
and commitment to the mission of Temple Beth-El

• The Engagement & Experience Manager reports to the Executive Director and works closely with Rabbi, senior staff and Membership Vice President
• Position is Full time with flexible hours; some nights and weekends required.
